Okotoks Lions Campground Skating Trail Now Open

Okotoks residents, layer up and glide along as another fun family activity await!

As the holiday season approaches, there’s nothing more exciting than spending time with family and loved ones. For families in Canada, there’s no one way to celebrate and cherish the holiday spirit!

May it be winter camping, snowboarding, gingerbread making, sipping a cup of hot chocolate, or even just simply roaming around and enjoying holiday light displays, Canadians are getting outdoors and making the most out of the season.

The Lions Campground skating trail located in Sheep River Park (Alberta, Canada) is now open for the season.

According to a report by the Okotoks Today, the flooded loop at 99 Woodhaven Drive has returned for another season, following a successful run last year.

The skating trail is a collaboration between the Town of Okotoks and the Okotoks Lions Club and was an inspiration from a loop established at Laudan Park a few years ago. However, this location is somewhat more shielded by the elements, allowing the ice to remain for a while.

In a Facebook post, The town of Okotoks urged visitors to respect the site when skating or visiting the area.

“A reminder that fires are permitted in approved gas fire pits, and wood fires are only permitted with a burn permit which can be applied for at forms.okotoks.ca/Forms/Burn_Permit,” the post indicated.

Additionally, the town expressed gratitude to the Lion’s Club for supporting the town’s skating trail.
