Some Alberta Parks Opening Camping Reservations This Month

Are you ready to camp? As warmer weather spreads throughout the province, many outdoor recreation enthusiasts are looking forward to spending summer nights in Alberta’s (Canada) provincial parks.

As per a report from RD News, while Alberta Parks offers year-round online camping reservations for specific campgrounds, some individual, group, and comfort camping sites will reopen their bookings this month.

Alberta Parks uses a staggered system by opening its online portal a few months in advance to ensure camping access for everyone.

Traditionally, reservations can be made 90 days prior for individual and backcountry camping or 180 days in advance for group and comfort camping.

The staggered system ensures that only a few people are trying to book simultaneously, which helps promote fair access for all Alberta residents seeking to pitch their tents or pull up their trailers.

According to Alberta Parks, if a campground opens on May 1, 2023, the 90-day booking window for individual and backcountry camping will open on January 31.

In some cases, reservations will open as early as January 14, 2023, whereas others won’t be available until at least March 21, 2023.

Campers can book a maximum of 10 consecutive nights in an individual, backcountry, and comfort campsite, but the maximum stay in a group site caps at five consecutive nights.

According to the Alberta Parks website, various camping options are available in Alberta’s provincial parks, including individual campsites, group campsites, and comfort camping sites

Alberta Parks also offers a range of other accommodations, including cabins, yurts, and oTENTiks, which offer a more comfortable camping experience with amenities.

“The booking window advances by one day each morning at 9:00 a.m. to provide fair and equal access to both online and call center users. Your arrival date must be within the designated booking window before making a reservation. Once you select your arrival date, you can book up to the next ten days, depending on availability,” the post indicated.

While the booking system is now available year-round, campers must book within each campground’s seasonal dates, according to the park system.
